-= Fiction =- Background - nanos

In the years following the amalgamation of mankind, and the beginning of the golden age of properity and harmony, nanotechnology has become more common place. Great wonders have been built with nanotechnology, buildings that tower miles into the sky and glitter like diamond, bridges made of what looks like crystal or glass, and great domes under the ocean, allowing beautiful cities to be built under the waves.

However, the limitations of nanotechnology have prevented it from being used on mankind, and whilst some applications of nano's have been created, such as the built-in computers that almost all of mankind use, generally speaking nanotechnology has not impacted the medical progression of the humanrace.

The downfall with nanotechnology is the excess heat that these nanites give off while working. In a human body, this heat can literally cook someone alive from the inside within a matter of seconds, and there were a number of messy research failures before scientists admitted failure. However, nanites can create very small components. These components can be inserted into the human body using organic technology and surgical techniques, rather than nanites (which are, simply put, very small, metallic robots). This technology allows the grafting of these components, and eliminate the need for the use of nanites in inserting the components into the human body. This organic technology, however, is difficult, and breakthroughs have only occurred in a small number of very specific applications. This was partly due to legislation enacted to prevent a majority of genetic research during the time of unrest, as people feared the they would no longer be considered 'human'.

The upshot of all this technology is that mankind, with it's HC (Head Comp) technology, now has almost instant access to information, and has almost created a hybrid man-machine technology.
