The Prelude to Exile

The weekend was one hard long effort.

Moving house. Is there anything that can cause pain, deplete monetary resources or cause stress as moving a house can?

Saturday dawned. My brother arrived to assist at 9am, and we loaded the 3 ton truck. And we loaded, and loaded and loaded. My parents arrived and offered unhelpful advice, so much so that Jo and I gave them simple tasks to do to keep them busy, and out of our way.

The parents left, and the truck was finally finished loaded. Unfortunately, the truck only contained furniture, beds, some boxes and whitegoods. None of the boxes and similar that still remained. This meant a second trip would need to be done.

We left Woonona, Wollongong, NSW, Australia, on the first trip at 12:30pm on Saturday, dropped my brother off at Hornsby at about 2:00pm. From there, by myself, I continued up to Belmont, Newcastle, NSW, Australia. All in all, a trip of 3.5 hrs, and about 180 kms or so. Jo stayed behind to continue with the last of the packing, and clean up.

Nathan and I unpacked, with Bec's assistance and just threw everything into the storage unit as it was close to closing time, and there is no after-hours access.

Back to Peter and Michelle's for the night.

Sunday and lots of box, chair and plant packing. Left by 9:45am, with Jo in the truck. Stopped at her parents, and then got to the storage unit about 1:30pm. Unpacked the entire unit and repacked to make everything fit, which it did. Then to Valentine to drop off the bed and plants. JUST before the rain, wind and hail hit.

Back to Wollongong, pick up the cat, pack the car with breakables and then to bed.
