-= thought =- Technology vs. Magic - The beginning of the war - Phase 2

With the mages becoming an outcast section of society, incidents of violence (or attempted violence) began to occur. However, after a number of very public (and messy) retaliations against these attackers, violence subsided. However, this only served to highten the anti-mage tensions in the community and the political arena.

It was in the middle east, in a country whose name has been forgotten in the sands of time and war, that the first government declared war against those that were mage-born. Overnight, in scenes very similar to the jewish roundups that occured in Nazi Germany, secret police attacked and captured mages throughout this country. The element of surprise allowed these attacks to succeed, many mages were not prepared for a coordinated assault by military forces and quickly feel in battle.

Those that were captured were executed on TV the following day, in public displays harkening back to the Spanish Inquisition and the Witch Hunts of Salem. Many nations condemned the executions, but none condemned the arrest of the mages.

Soon, throughout many countries the quiet arrests of mages began. Many would disappear in the night as the police or army of the nation moved in, quietly.

Finally the mages realised the danger and began to form small groups that moved out of their countries of origin. Their familes were left behind as the mages disappeared from governmental view.

Soon the reappeared, taking over a small island off the east coast of Australia. This was considered far enough away from the major international powers, and closer to the sympathetic Australian government. The mages communicated with the United Nations and declared themselves a seperate country.

Unfortunately, the typical response to this from the nations of the world was to promptly declare war, or impose sanctions. Few nations saw the mage run country as anything but a threat.

It was North Korea who launched the first attack on the mage country, sending in a wave of thousands of soldiers and high explosive missles. But the mages quickly deflected the missles and then waged war against the soldiers. Such war has never been seen before, but knowledge of the devestation and death quickly spread, and soon other nations who were fearful of the mages sent forces to the island nation, and the mage wars had begun.

-= Thought =- Technology vs. Magic - The beginning of the war

The war between magic and technology lasted centuries. At the end of the 21st century, magic reappeared in a world that had been without it for centuries, as users of magic began to surface and sell their magical answers to technologies problems.

Issues such as pollution and waste management quickly became a thing of the past as mages began to reap the windfalls of technologies mistakes. While the number of mages was limited, the area of impact was generally large. These were considered issues that could be dealt with by a small amount of magical power

Such a union seems like it would solve all of mankinds issues, quickly and easily. However, as usual in instances such as this, basic human nature would not allow this to occur.

It initially started very quietly. A scientific research organisation had it's funding reduced, as many of the projects it was working on had been made redundent with the introduction of mass magical useage. To counter this, the research organisation began to invest time and effort into propganda of an anti-magic slant.

Soon, hearsay and conjectured stories about the unspeakable rites that the mages used to gain power were heard everywhere. The mages attempted to counter this, to prove the untruth, but again, human nature transpired to defeat them. Fearing those that are different is something that is built into the most primal of humans, and so the mages were feared by the common people.

The powerful leaders of countries understood the campaign against the mages and continued to use them, until public opinion swayed aganist them. The mages soon found themselves without allies in an increasinly hostile world.
